Registration for Lattelecom Riga Marathon 2019 is open!
Since registration opened for the 2019 Lattelecom Riga Marathon at midnight on the 18th of September, participants from 15 countries have already registered to take part in the race. Registration for the 2019 race, which will take place on the 18th-19th of May, opened 8 months in advance of the event, as is tradition, to give potential participants the opportunity to prepare properly. We anticipate that the 2019 Lattelecom Riga Marathon will attract a record number of overseas participants from at least 80 countries, in addition to introducing more and more of the Latvian public to running and an active lifestyle. The 2018 Lattelecom Riga Marathon brought together over 37,000 participants from 78 countries.
At the 29th Lattelecom Riga Marathon, which will take place on the 18th and 19th of May 2019, runners will be able to choose from the classic 42.195km marathon distance as well as the half-marathon, 10km and 6km distances. The event will also feature a symbolic 4.2km (or 10% of a marathon) Family Run and the Rimi Kids’ Day running distances for the very youngest runners.
We hope to attract a record number of overseas participants by implementing a broad international campaign at Europe’s most significant marathon exhibitions, working actively with tourism agencies, and advertising in the international running media. A crucial attraction in popularising Riga as a marathon destination continues to be the IAAF Road Race Label, the symbol of the International Association of Athletics Federations’ leading marathons. The Lattelecom Riga Marathon is the only marathon in Northern Europe to have received this award. As previously announced, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon has resolved to obtain the highest IAAF Road Race Label status, Gold Label. As announced, the total economic impact of the 2017 marathon was estimated at 4.5 million Euro; the amount attracted by overseas participants was at least 2.54 million Euro, and VAT generated from overseas money was estimated at 390,000 Euro.
In our efforts to promote the idea of an active lifestyle even more thoroughly in the daily lives of the Latvian public, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon will also implement a wide training and running school programme this year in collaboration with adidas. The Latvian Schools Cup in collaboration with the Latvian Sports Federations Council will give the opportunity to run to at least 2,500 school pupils, and the Rimi Kids’ Day activities will involve at least 12,000 of the very youngest runners along with their parents.
Registration for the Lattelecom Riga Marathon can be completed here, and the event fee is cheapest when applying by the 31st of September, 2018. Applications are open for the 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km and 6km distances, as well as the Rimi Kids’ Day Family Run. Registration for the Latvian Schools Cup, as well as for the Rimi Kids’ Day shorter distances, will begin in 2019.
